Michele Pfeiffer offers a holiday hack for harried moms in the new comedy Oh. What. Fun.

Michele Pfeiffer’s Claire Clauster has spent decades keeping everyone else’s holidays stitched together with cheer, cinnamon rolls, wrapping paper and sheer willpower. All she wants if for her kids to recognize her efforts by nominating her for the annual Holiday Moms Contest, hosted by Eva Longoria’s talk show host Zazzi Tims. But the kids ignore her hints and Claire is never nominated.

Instead, she’s left alone in a house full of half-wrapped presents and unanswered lists. That’s the moment the straw finally breaks the camel’s back. Claire drops the tape, grabs her bag and announces to no one in particular that the shop is officially closed. She’s done. Peace out.

While her baffled family tries to reverse-engineer where things went wrong, Claire heads for Hollywood and finds herself among the moms nominated for the contest and finds herself on camera where she explains why she has abandoned her family on Christmas in front of the whole country. There she learns she isn’t alone. Claire realizes this is a national epidemic of being taken for granted.

By the time Claire’s family finally tracks her down, they’ve learned more from her absence than they ever absorbed from her presence. They’re ready to say the words she’s been aching to hear and to shoulder their share of the season.

Until then, mothers everywhere may want to consider a brief strike until their little elves master the basics of participation. For guidance on keeping your own holidays bright, Oh What Fun is now streaming on Amazon Prime.
